University Grants Commission (UGC) Chairman Professor SM Faiz broke the hunger strike by giving water to the students of Jagannath University (JU). The UGC Chairman arrived at the protest site around 7:30 pm today, Friday (May 16).
The UGC Chairman said, “We have only one objective, we cannot keep our beloved students on the streets like this. UGC is your institution, come whenever you feel the need. We will sit and talk. Please don’t stay here anymore, we will all work together.”
The Chairman of the University Grants Commission ended his speech and made the students break their hunger strike by giving them water to drink.
It is worth noting that for the third consecutive day, Jagannath University students are staying in Kakrail with four demands. The demands are – introduction of housing scholarships for 70 percent of the university’s students from the 2025-26 fiscal year, approval of the full budget proposed by JOB without cuts, passing and implementing the work of the second campus in the ECNEC meeting, ensuring a proper investigation into the police ambush on students on May 14 and exemplary punishment for the culprits.
